Bartlett Lake 600k Description

The Bartlett Lake 600k route is a concatenation of our Desert Loop NV 400k (ridewithgps.com/routes/56663696) and our Bartlett Lake 200k (ridewithgps.com/routes/30019530) events. The route starts and finishes in North Phoenix and travels in a counter-clockwise direction around the entire Valley of the Sun for the first 400k, described here.

The route travels along most of the length of the Valley of the Sun. This is on roads that generally skirt the outer reaches of the cities of the Valley, which together comprise the fifth largest metropolitan area in the United States. The roads were chosen to minimize traffic and stop lights, and many are formerly key roads that have been superseded by Interstate and highways, leaving them for cyclists to enjoy.

Services are located at regular intervals along the route. Towns and cities visited: Chandler, Queen Creek, Mesa, Fountain Hills, Scottsdale, Carefree, Cave Creek, Peoria, Sun Cities, Buckeye, Estrella, Avondale, Laveen and Phoenix somewhere in there!

The Bartlett Lake 200k first ventures into the Tonto National Forest in the far North Valley. There's plenty of climbing, but it's worth it for the views you'll get. Your first destination is Sear-Kay Ruins. After that, there is an out-and-back to Bartlett Lake and it's pretty "lumpy." Once at the lake, your Control is at the brand new Grille and Store there. You're right at the marina, so it makes for a great photo op. After climbing back out from the lake, you'll enjoy a lot of descending.

You'll then make your way across far North Phoenix where you will visit the tiny community of New River. There's a nudist's resort there, so don't venture too far off route. You may not be able to un-see that! There's a plateau in New River following by a fun and mild 10 mile descent. You'll pass by one of the other reservoirs in the Valley of the Sun - Lake Pleasant.

You will then enjoy and "easy pedal" back across the Valley to your triumphant finish.
